I’m sure, hindi niya gusto ‘yon!”

Kaya next time, no more init ng ulo on air.

The country’s leading news and information cable TV channel DZMM TeleRadyo makes a big leap to the global arena in its quest to deliver the first in news and public service to Filipinos worldwide.
DZMM TeleRadyo is now being broadcast in the Middle East and Australia as part of the package offered by TFC, The Filipino Channel, to Filipinos over there. It will also be available in Europe starting June 15.

TFC has long been offering DZMM in its audio format abroad, but with the advent of DZMM TeleRadyo, global Filipinos will now be able to see their favorite anchors and view headlines, news updates, weather reports, and public service announcements.

More importantly, they will also be able to see the first video footage of the biggest and most breaking news in the Philippines from the station’s trusted Radyo Patrol Reporters.

ABS-CBN Manila Radio Division Head Peter Musngi, who recently judged in the prestigious New York Festivals Radio Programming & Promotion Awards, said this new development marks another feat for the multi-awarded radio station.

So far this year, DZMM has led in both radio and cable TV ratings to be the concurrent number one radio station and cable news channel in the Philippines.

Meanwhile, in line with its international expansion, DZMM beefed up its programs to also address the needs of global Pinoys. DZMM’s 18-year old flagship public service program “Aksyon Ngayon Global Patrol” with Kaye Dacer, Fr. Tito Caluag, and Zaldy Naguit now airs reports and concerns from ABS-CBN Global News Bureaus in North America, Middle East, Europe, and Australia.

“Usapang de Campanilla” with Lynda Jumilla, Alvin Echico, Atty. Danny Concepcion and Atty. Claire Castro, and “Magandang Gabi Dok,” with Niña Corpuz will also include legal or health queries from listeners abroad.

The whole team of DZMM is also preparing for its 24th anniversary celebration this July, which will be marked by various public service efforts such as the launch of a mobile library and clinic for children that will tour barangays nationwide.

With crowd favorite Tricia Santos out of the competition, it’s a free-for-all for the remaining housemates of “Pinoy Big Brother Teen Clash of 2010.”

Who among Ann, Bret, Devon, Fretzie, Ivan, James, Jenny and Ryan will go all the way to the Teen Big Night on June 26 and win the title of “Teen Big Winner?”

Last Sunday (June 14), supporters of Pinoy and Teen-ternational housemates debated on the biggest issues inside the house such as which group showed more discipline, brought more joy, displayed leadership skills, and are more deserving to win in this year’s season.

To speak for Team Pinoy were PBB original Teen Edition housemate Mikee Lee, debaters from Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, and DJ Charlie of Tambayan 101.9. To challenge them for the Teen-ternationals were Rona Libby of PBB Teen Edition Plus, debaters from UP Diliman and DJ Mojo Jojo of Magic 89.9.

Team Pinoy hit the Teen-ternationals for their small contributions in household chores while the other group raised the issue of backstabbing against the Pinoy housemates. While Team Pinoy raved about the Pinoys’ jokes which brought joy to viewers, Team Teen-ternational highlighted their ideas and determination during tasks.

On the final debate, Team Pinoy asserted that a Filipino should win Teen Big Winner since the show after all is called “Pinoy Big Brother.” Team Teen-ternational answered them by saying being Filipino is not measured by blood alone.

But in the end, the public will decide. Vote for your favorite housemate. To vote via mobile, just text BB (space) NAME OF HOUSEMATE and send to 2331 for Globe, Sun Cellular, TM and Bayan Wireless subscribers, and 231 for Smart and Talk N’ Text subscribers.

Don’t miss the last 10 days of “PBB Teen Clash of 2010.” Join Mariel Rodriguez in “Uber,” Toni Gonzaga on primetime and Bianca Gonzalez in “PBB Updates.”

Ang iba pang nakapiwesto sa partial and un-official ranking ng FHM 100 Sexiest Women In The World ay sina Iwa Moto (4th), Erich Gonzales ( 5th), Katrina Halili (6th), Angelica panganiban (7th), Ehra Madrigal ( 8th), Bangs Garcia (9th) at Regine Velasquez (10th).

But we’d say, it’s still Jovit who has the most number of supporters dahil talaga namang halos mayanig ang buong Araneta sa pagbubunyi ng kanyang mga fans.

Talaga namang kamangha-mangha ang kanyang ginawa and he really deserves to be known all over the world.

Anyway, last Sunday ang announcement ng winner ng PGT at by the time na binabasa n’yo ang kolum na ito ay tiyak na alam n’yo na kung sino ang kauna-kaunahang PGT grand champion na tatanggap ng P2M.

Controversial actress Gretchen Barretto admits ABS-CBN has prohibited her from commenting further on remarks that Angelica Panganiban supposedly made against her.

"May mga bawal na akong sabihin," she said on the matter in a "TV Patrol" interview.

In a mocking tone, she added, "Hindi ako sanay na may bawal ako sabihin. Gusto ko free lang ako magsalita."

The actress then pointed at people behind the camera, the ABS-CBN staff, saying, "Tignan mo, tignan mo sila...laging may mga nakabantay... I feel caged."

ABS-CBN has a good reason to feel worried about the brewing word war between Barretto and Panganiban.

Only a few weeks earlier, the network had to deal with another word war involving "Wowowee" host Willie Revillame and ABS-CBN talent Jobert Sucaldito. The consequential furor put a question mark in the future of one of the network's sacred cash cows after Revillame was ordered not to appear on his show for several months.

Barretto, who is on a comeback trail, stars in one of the network's much-awaited -- and spent on -- series, "Magkaribal."

Her word war against Panganiban stemmed from statements the former made during a recent promotional media blitz for the series, which co-stars, not coincidentally, Panganiban's beau, actor Derek Ramsay.

Commenting on Ramsay's upcoming South African vacation with Panganiban, Barretto said: "Masa-sad ako siyempre kasi wala ng kwento.

Barretto, who admitted in previous interviews that she has a "crush" on Ramsay, openly hugged the actor on cam.

The Philippines’ Lopez Group is mulling a move which would see it merging its telecoms arm Bayan Telecommunications Holdings Corp (BayanTel) into its media division ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp, The Business Mirror writes. It is thought the move is part of efforts to increase synergies between the two firms. Benpres Holdings Corp chairman Oscar Lopez is quoted as saying the plan for convergence is being spearheaded by ABS-CBN chairman and CEO Eugenio L Lopez III. However, in order for the plan to be realised, Lopez needs first to resolve the court-mandated restructuring programme imposed on the telco six years ago. Benpres is the listed holding company for the Lopez group’s energy, media and telecoms businesses. It owns a majority stake in BayanTel together with privately held Lopez Inc. Meanwhile, Benpres also controls a 57% stake in ABS-CBN.

Local industry watchers say it is unclear as to how BayanTel’s sizeable debts will impact on the balance sheet of ABS-CBN, a profitable company which is currently forecasting ‘significant’ double-digit growth in 2010, up from PHP1.7 billion last year. At the end of 2009, BayanTel had reportedly paid a total of PHP1.42 billion for both principal and interest obligations. This brings the company’s debt payments to PHP5.92 billion since 2004. The telco’s 1Q10 net revenues dipped 7% year-on-year to PHP1.522 billion compared with the same period in 2009. BayanTel’s data business, which accounts for half of total revenues and includes direct subscriber line and corporate date services, were ‘slightly’ down during the period under review.

In 2002, after its "Saya Ng Summer" station ID (yes, the one that started it all), ABS-CBN made a very interesting follow-up: a rainy season station ID. In those days, the idea was quite novel. Making one for summer is expected since it is a much-anticipated, festive (and not to mention, commercially lucrative) season as Filipino culture and tradition dictate. But to make one for a time of the year when we're always wary of an incoming typhoon, most likely to catch illnesses, or when even the most basic things like having our clothes dried or commuting to school or work give us much stress? That was unheard of, and maybe a little bit unnecessary.

But wet season hassles aside, we Filipinos, of course, have our melodramatic and sentimental side that nurtures a love affair with the rain. In fact, we have a vast collection of Pinoy songs that romanticize the rainy days.

And in 2002, ABS-CBN tapped into this emotional attachment we have with the season of downpours, and the "Sukob Na" station ID was born. Instead of havoc, diseases or horrendous traffic, the station ID reminded us of the things we enjoy about the season, equating rain with comfort, togetherness and love. And with that video of stars either playing in the rain outside or enjoying their bonding time indoors, warmth was given to the hearts of the viewers in those cold times, and ABS-CBN from then on owned the idea of having a rainy day season station ID.

That particular station ID is easily one of ABS-CBN's most memorable. It had a feel-good song by local boyband 17:28 that became sort of an unofficial rainy day anthem, plus touching Kapamilya moments that strengthened the Network's promise of being there for their viewers come rain or shine.

For quite some time, ABS-CBN never released another one of its kind, or if they did, it obviously is not as memorable as their "Sukob Na" campaign. But this year, ABS-CBN promised to lead the nation once again in welcoming the rainy season. And right on the first few moments of the 2010 rainy season station ID, we had the feeling that we've heard that song before. And are we right about this feeling. In a shocking twist of events, ABS-CBN known for giving us station IDs that are always different than the previous ones, did a rehash.

Technically, it's not an ID for the entire network's programming. It's made for ABS-CBN's commemoration of the 60 years of the Pinoy Soap Opera. "Sukob na 2010" uses the same song, now interpreted by Aiza Seguerra, but of course, with a less R&B/Pop boyband and a more natural, subdued and acoustic feel. It features the lead stars of ABS-CBN's current and upcoming teleseryes.

The SID becomes surprising in this aspect. Although we're familiar with Xyriel Manabat from Momay, and Empress, Felix Roco and Matt Evans from Rosalka, our curiosity is piqued by the sudden pairing of Cristine Reyes with Zanjoe Marudo and Jericho Rosales with Anne Curtis. Some viewers might find it unusual that Gretchen Barretto--considered to be a high-society personality--is suddenly on a picnic mantel with Bea Alonzo. Soon, La Greta will finally star in her own teleserye titled Magkaribal. There's also the appearance of Kristine Hermosa with Piolo Pascual enjoying the rain with Zaijian Jaranilla (a.k.a. Santino). The matinee idol is currently busy shooting for this teleserye titled Noah.

One thing is clear: John Lloyd Cruz and Angel Locsin is now officially ABS-CBN's 'flagship' love team, being placed on the important end frames. Fans of the two are looking forward to their upcoming fantaserye Imortal.

Given her pregnancy, it's understandable why ABS-CBN's declared "face of Pinoy Soap Opera" Judy Ann Santos is not included in this plug.

Forgetting all these issues about the personalities, the station ID still evokes the same heartwarming feelings we had when we saw the first version eight years ago. Again, the SID makes us forget everything we hate about the rainy season, and envelope us with that certain mood of cherishing all that's good and beautiful about the cool and damp weather.

And technically, this ID is leaps and bounds better than the original. With its impressive visuals coupled with soothing music, it's such a joy and pleasure to watch, as comforting as a hot soup on a rainy day. Come on, whose heart will not melt with scenes like that of little adorable Momay playing in the rain? Beautifully shot and superbly directed, this ID makes you want to join the stars in playing, dancing and chasing each other under the calming raindrops.

In the end, the ID being a rehash (or in a more positive term, an update), even worked to its advantage. Like rediscovering old photographs or old records we used to like, it brings us back to past emotional moments and help bring a sense of nostalgia. And in the time of El Niño when we long begged the skies and the gods for rain, Sukob Na 2010 shows us that the time we have been waiting for has come, and it is worth celebrating too, just like summer or Christmas.
